'Dune' and APL Collaborate for Sci-Fi Inspired Footwear

LA-based footwear label Athletic Propulsion Labs has released a sporty limited-edition footwear collection in collaboration with science fiction film Dune, introducing three uniquely shaped silhouettes built with high-performance technology.

The APL Superfuture found in red is inspired by the House of Tyranny, and most notably features Load 'N Launch technology that was banned by the NBA due to its potential to instantly increase vertical leaps by up to 3.5 inches. The mesh uppers are supported by a series of synthetic panels and elastic straps, and TPU adds reinforcement to high-wear areas for increased durability. A padded ankle collar in the rear complete with Velcro straps provides extra support, and a speckled rubber midsole and semi-transparent white outsole complete the laceless silhouette.

The TechLoom Bliss low-top slip-on is the brand's lightest running shoe ever at 6.8 oz, inspired by the iconic desert planet in the film.  Uppers are dressed in beige nylon mesh with a custom milled satin strap across the midfoot. A speckled Propelium midsole that claims better midsole integrity than conventional EVA incorporates a durable rubber outsole below fitted with a forefoot crash pad.

Meanwhile, the Techloom Defender Atreides is a weatherproof silhouette inspired by the evergreen forest homeland depicted in the film. Made to tackle extreme weather, the turquoise uppers are lined with water repellent materials and the interior is lined with a waterproof vapor barrier. A supple Lycra tongue allows for a free range of motion, and a thick sail midsole and grooved dark blue outsole provide elevated traction.

The limited-edition footwear capsule is now available in both men's and women's sizes exclusively at the APL website and the APL Flagship Experience at The Grove in Los Angeles. Prices range from $220 to $325 USD.
