Netflix Officially Unveils List of Its Most Popular TV Shows and Movies

Netflix has shared data confirming its most popular TV shows and movies for the first time ever.

According to reports, the streaming service's co-CEO and chief content officer, Ted Sarandos, took the stage during Vox Media’s Code Conference to reveal the list. He unveiled two slides with rankings — both recorded during the title's first 28 days — based on either the number of accounts that clicked and streamed the title for a minimum of two minutes, or the total amount of time it was streamed.

Sarandos confirmed that the first season of Bridgerton took the No. 1 spot for most popular TV series on both rankings. Extraction emerged victorious as the film with the highest number of clicks while Birdbox was No. 1 in terms of viewing hours. Other shows and movies that made it on the top 10 include Lupin: Part 1, The Witcher: Season 1, Money Heist: Part 4, Army of the Dead, Murder Mystery and Spenser Confidential.

“We’re trying to be more transparent with talent, with the market,” Sarandos said, adding that the platform's streaming data is “a big black box, mostly.” He also confirmed that Squid Game is currently on track to be Netflix's most popular series. “We did not see that coming, in terms of its global popularity,” Sarandos admitted.
