Dennis Villeneuve's Dune is projected to enter atop the domestic box office, with projections stating that the film could earn $33 million USD in its opening weekend.
According to reports, the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi epic opened with $17.5 million USD on its theatrical premiere date of October 22, with other industry professionals hinting that the film could even reach $39. 1 million USD. As of writing, it has earned a total of $130 million USD from the international box office.
Dune, which stars Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, Jason Momoa and Javier Bardem, premiered on HBO Max a day early. WarnerMedia CEO Ann Sarnoff previously hinted to Variety that the viewership on the platform will be one of the deciding factors for a sequel, and also seemingly told Deadline that a followup is inevitable, “Will we have a sequel to Dune? If you watch the movie you see how it ends. I think you pretty much know the answer to that."
