The Weeknd is set to star in and develop the upcoming HBO series, The Idol.
According to reports, the show will follow a female pop singer who gets involved in a romantic relationship with an "enigmatic" L.A. club owner who is also the leader of a secret cult. The Weeknd will join the cast, as well as co-write and executive produce alongside Reza Fahim and Euphoria creator Sam Levinson; the three of them will be named as creators.
The Idol will mark The Weeknd's first foray into live-action TV after he lent his voice to American Dad! and Robot Chicken. He also played a version of himself in the Safdie Brothers' 2019 hit Uncut Gems alongside Adam Sandler, LaKeith Stanfield, Julia Fox, Kevin Garnett and Idina Menzel.
