Amidst the wait for Shin Ultraman, we are now learning that director Hideaki Anno of Studio Khara and Evangelion fame will be helming Shin Kamen Rider. Announced as part of the 50th-anniversary celebration of Kamen Rider, the upcoming live-action film will reimagine the beloved tokusatsu series originally launched back in 1971.
Set to be written and directed by Anno, the Toei Productions feature set to release March 2023 was announced with teaser artwork and a promo video. Speaking on the film Anno revealed, "It’s been six years since production began. Due to changes in production because of the Coronavirus, the release of the film has been pushed to two years away." Shin Kamen Rider is expected to be a darker retelling of the origin of the iconic insect motif motorcycle-riding superhero and serve as the latest in the emerging Shin series started by 2016's Shin Godzilla.
