Upcoming 'Resident Evil' Film Reboot Has Announced Its Official Title

A little more than a month after revealing the release date for the upcoming Resident Evil film reboot, the project has finally announced its official title.

Named Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, the film was originally announced back in 2017, and is set as an origin story before the catastrophic outbreak. It'll feature some of the franchise's most beloved characters, including Claire and Chris Redfield, who'll be played by Maze Runner's Kaya Scodelario and Upload's Robbie Amell. The two will be joined by Ant-Man’s Hannah John-Kamen as Jill Valentine, Zombieland: Double Tap’s Avan Jogia as Leon Kennedy, The Umbrella Academy's Tom Hopper as Albert Wesker, and Yellowstone's Neal McDonough as William Birkin. Writer-director Johannes Roberts will be producing the film alongside Sony Pictures and Constantin Films.

The current reboot is coming on top of other projects Netflix has announced previously based on the Resident Evil franchise, which includes a live-action television series revolving around Wesker's children and another animated CGI title named Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness.

For fans of the franchise, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City will arrive to theaters September 3.

Elsewhere in entertainment, Steven Spielberg is working with Seth Rogen on a semi-biographical film for Netflix.
