The Weeknd is the newest musical artist to hop on the NFT craze as he teased the release of a brand new song as a non-fungible token.
The XO Records founder took to social media to announce the news, although he kept the track title and release date under wraps. "[N]ew song living in NFT space. coming soon..." he wrote, further clarifying in separate tweets that the song will still be part of his After Hours era. He added, "[P.S.] this chapter isn’t quite done yet ..." and "still tying some loose ends."
It's been a year since The Weeknd released his revered fourth studio album, which was recently certified as a double platinum record by the RIAA. The organization also confirmed that the After Hours tracks “Heartless” and "Blinding Lights" are now double-platinum and 7x platinum singles, with the latter making history as the first song to ever spend a whole year in the Billboard Hot 100’s top 10.
