'King Richard' Trailer Sees Will Smith as Venus and Serena Williams' Father and Coach

Warner Bros. and HBO Max have unveiled the official trailer for the upcoming film King Richard, which stars Will Smith as Venus and Serena Williams' father and coach, Richard Williams.

Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, the biographical drama film is based on the true story of how the Williams sisters became two of the most celebrated athletes in history — largely in part due to the coaching of their father, Richard, who began training them at a young age. The trailer for King Richard focuses on both the internal and external hardships the family went through as many doubted the skill and possibility of Venus and Serena becoming tennis superstars. "The most dangerous creature on this whole Earth," Smith says in the trailer, "is a woman who know how to think. Ain't nothing she can't do."

Joining Smith in the cast are Saniyya Sidney as Venus, Demi Singleton as Serena and Aunjanue Ellis as Oracene "Brandy" Price and Jon Bernthal as Rick Macci, two coaches who also trained the Williams sisters.

King Richard was first announced in 2019 and was initially set to release in November 2020, but was delayed due to the pandemic. The film is written by Zach Baylin and produced by Tim White, Trevor White and Smith, as well as Overbrook Entertainment and Star Thrower Entertainment.
