Jonathan Anderson is one of the most prolific designers of our time, having just showcased a better-than-ever-before collection for his eponymous label and, now, a new Spring/Summer 2022 collection for LOEWE.
Throughout the collection, you'll find Anderson's usual fascination with and injection of youth, intimacy, self-expression, and a sense of humanity, which is explored by referencing works by the New York-based, German artist Florian Krewer. A combination of "night-dark blacks, unclean whites, and artificially-sweetened pinks, purples and blues" frequent Krewer's work, and now this concept of a night out finds itself translated into the LOEWE collection.
Coupled with the shapes designed by Anderson -- floaty, baggy, with strategic cut-outs and threadbare finishes -- LOEWE SS22 is perfect for releasing tension, almost as if it's been designed to have fun in. Multiple layers or unexpected add-ons (such as the metal plaque on a jumper's rear), paired with pieces that feature spiraling colors or a hazy print of pink and gray-toned male figures, all comes together to present the idea of distortion -- or tripping -- which is only accentuated by the bold colors taken from Krewer's work.
However, this can all be contrasted once more with leather parkas, gathered zip-up coats, trenches, or tunics that can work under two lenses: wear formally with one of the new LOEWE Puzzle bags for a clean look, or pair with some of the aforementioned knits, or a space-dyed neckerchief for a more rave-tinged reference.
The aforementioned Puzzle bag is back, but this time around appears in a supple hobo shape or as a bumbag in two sizes -- small and mini -- and of course, comes in vibrant hues such as neon pink and apple green, just like the rolltop backpacks and bumbags that are finished with LOEWE's anagram.
Complementing this vivid vision is "The Box," LOEWE's presentation of the SS22 collection. Comprising two books, four posters, three hundred glow-in-the-dark star stickers in a dust bag, and a fluorescent yellow leather slap bracelet, it's all about capturing the spirit of SS22 while giving a physical space to the people that made this collection come together. So, there are two books designed by M/M (Paris), with the first featuring words from Anderson and art critic Stanton Taylor alongside rare Krewer works, photographs, and more. David Sims' works take over the second book, which sees characters decked in the new LOEWE collection.
