Looking ahead to the Spring/Summer 2022 season, Vetements has revealed its latest seasonal range centered around a unique outlook of the times we have faced and are still facing. The Zurich-based label helmed by Demna and Guram Gvasalia asks "What is reality today? Is that picture photoshopped or real? Are we imprisoned in our own homes? Are we losing the human touch and the human connection? Do we consume the internet or has the internet consumed us? Do we live in a matrix?"
The expansive SS22 collection is dominated by an exploration of deconstructed tailoring for convertible multilayered looks and challenging silhouettes, along with the use of 3D modeling and digital pattern modifications to reimagine iconic garments. Innovation continues with textiles sustainably developed from scratch in-house and experimenting with wool and cashmere through dipping in liquid metals, heat stamping, spray painting and 3D printing.
Reframing the concept of "homewear" comes in the form of tailored pajamas and stretchy dynasty-style power dresses. While wire, fire and pen scribble prints serve to introduce an examination of the various dimensions of isolation during the last year. Finally, the collection is wrapped up with offerings playfully marked with a classic quite about being single and mingling, along with a defiant proclamation that the Devil does wear Vetements.
