Saul "Canelo" Álvarez Defeats Billy Joe Saunders by TKO

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez has brought it home after a devastating uppercut in the eighth round, leaving Billy Joe Saunders unable to get up from his stool. Alvarez wins by TKO and is awarded the WBO world super-middleweight title, now holding three of the four world titles at super-middleweight. The win brings the athlete one step closer to being the first undisputed super middleweight champion of the world.

Saunders was unable to gain a footing as the Mexican fight found an opening for a shot to the British fighter's right eye. Saunder's trainer called the bout off when the Saunders was unable to see. BBC retrieved a quote from Alvarez who said, "I think I broke his cheek. The truth is I knew it. I guessed in the corner and told my trainer Eddie Reynoso 'I broke his cheek'." Seconds after landing the forceful blow, Alvarez celebrated, raising both hands in front of his rival, ruthlessly letting those in attendance know that he had shown no mercy. Saunders was unbeaten in 30 fights, but unfortunately in this matchup against Alvarez, was down on all three scorecards by the time he lost by stoppage. He was unable to hold of Alvarez's calculated pressure.

Alvarez now holds the WBA, WBC and WBO world titles and wants to fight American Caleb Plant for the IBF title, in hopes of becoming the only Mexican in history to hold all four belts at 168lbs.

In other sports news, NBC is set to stream the Tokyo 2021 Summer Olympics on Twitch.
