Chitose Abe's sacai and Tomo Koizumi's eponymous brand, TOMO KOIZUMI, have linked up for a summer capsule collection that spotlights Koizumi's signature ruffles, and marks the first collaboration between the two.
Koizumi is a Tokyo-based designer who is a split-recipient of the LVMH Prize 2020 — a decision to equally divvy up last year's cash prize between the eight finalists in hopes of alleviating some financial burden faced during this time of COVID-19 — as well as part of the BoF 500 in 2019, and a HYPEAWARDS 2019 nominee for Best Emerging Womenswear Brand. The rising Japanese couturier has also dressed the likes of Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus, shown at New York Fashion Week AW19 with Bella Hadid and Emily Ratajkowski, and graced the covers of Vogue, V and WWD.
For this collaboration, Koizumi's cascading ruffles (made from Japanese polyester organza) are combined with the functionality of Abe's practical design sensibilities, and arrive in the forms of a shoulder bag, a cross-body bag, and leg warmers — all of which, come in three colors: a gradient pale yellow/orange/faded brown, a gradient deep blue/green/pale turquoise, and black, with prices ranging from ¥29,700 – ¥118,800 JPY (approx. $270 – $1090 USD).
The sacai x TOMO KOIZUMI capsule collection will be available from June 4 on sacai's official webstore, as well as select sacai and Dover Street Market outlets in the U.S., London, Hong Kong, China and Singapore.
In other related news, sacai's Nike Blazer Low in "Magma Orange" and "Classic Green" are set to release soon.
