The Maserati Quattroporte isn't your typical fast family saloon car. It's for those that have said no to a BMW M5, a Mercedes-AMG E63s, the Lexus IS 500 F even, and have chosen to go for one of Italy's most well-heeled car manufacturers and its gorgeous Quattroporte. For some this is enough, but for one particular British owner, he was missing something from his recently-purchased Maserati -- it wasn't a Shooting Brake.
Carrozzeria Touring built four Bellagio Fastback models based on the 2009 iteration of the Quattroporte, and the client who owns this 2016 model you see above didn't get his hands on one back then -- so, he enlisted the right talent to build his own. After getting offers of around $280,000 USD (at current rates, and before the cost of the car alone) from coachbuilders, the client met Adam Redding -- a bodyworker known for mastering the likes of Jaguar E-type restorations, Aston Martins, Lancias, Bristols, and Ferrari Dinos.
The two came together to produce what you see above: a one-of-one 2016 Maserati Quattroporte Shooting Brake. It was made by opening up the rear and laying down steel to show how it would look, before being mocked up on a computer and then being made by hand. Over 1,500 hours of work went into what is coined the "Cinqueporte," which is said to be as good as anything that came out of Maserati's factory and is hard to believe it didn't.
This particular offering is based on the three-liter turbocharged V6 diesel that's good for 271 HP and 443 lb-ft of torque, but bear in mind, it has to carry much more weight on its rear nowadays.
