Netflix's Anime Adaptation of Filipino Action-Horror Comic 'Trese' Receives Debut Trailer

Netflix has released the debut trailer of its upcoming anime series, Trese.

The streaming service is an adaptation of the hit Filipino comic series of the same name, created by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo:

"Set in a Manila where the mythical creatures of Philippine folklore live in hiding amongst humans, Alexandra Trese finds herself going head to head with a criminal underworld comprised of malevolent supernatural beings."

Staying true to its origins, Trese will feature many voice actors of Filipino descent, including but not limited to Shay Mitchell, Darren Criss, Manny Jacinto, Dante Basco, Lou Diamond Phillips, Jon Jon Briones and Nicole Scherzinger. Meanwhile, the Filipino language cast will hear Liza Soberano, Niica Rojo, Steffi Graf Bontogon-Mola, RJ Celdran, Simon dela Cruz, Apollo Abraham and more.

“I'm so excited to be a part of a unique and amazing project like Trese, and to voice a character as brilliant as Alexandra Trese. Philippine folklore is rich and fascinating, and I am thrilled to be a part of the team bringing this story to life," Mitchell, who starred in hits like YOU and Pretty Little Liars, said in a statement. Soberano added, "It’s an honor to be the voice of an iconic character such as Alexandra Trese. I’m a huge fan of Budjette and KaJO’s award-winning Trese comics. Maraming salamat! Excited nako! (Thank you so much! I'm already excited!)"
