With property in central Tokyo among the most expensive in the world, the finishing touch to a multi-level penthouse in an already exclusive luxury development had to be pretty special.
After finishing The Kita in Tokyo's Kitasando neighborhood, developer Westbank tasked architect Kengo Kuma with creating a bespoke Rolls-Royce Dawn that would serve as four-wheeled representation of the building.
The car would be for the exclusive use of the owner of the building's penthouse, known as The Kita Tea House because of its rooftop tea house.
Characteristic of Kuma's architecture, The Kita challenges the relationship between interior and exterior, which made the convertible Dawn the perfect choice for the project.
Kuma worked with Rolls-Royce's Bespoke Collective department to ensure the correct choice of materials, colors, textures and ambience were made to ensure a "seamless aesthetic and atmospheric transition from property to conveyance."
The Dawn features Silver Haze paint with a silver hood and Royal Walnut panelling, reflecting the use of the wood inside the penthouse's lobby. The car's interior features a Selby Grey leather interior with a dash that gradates horizontally from Selby Grey to Piano Black, the first time Rolls-Royce has achieved such an effect.
The Kita's lattice motif is also inlaid into the front fascia in stainless steel and embroidered into the headrests, while the finishing touches are a bespoke designed clock and custom, door-stowed umbrellas.
