Niantic Announces Official 'Pikmin' Mobile AR Game with Nintendo

With the success of Niantic's augmented reality mobile game Pokémon Go, Nintendo has set its sights on the San Francisco-based developer for an official AR game featuring the Pikmin franchise.

This new AR mobile game will combine the playful characters of Pikmin with the real-world setting for a game that encourages walking and outdoor activity. "As we continue to expand our games portfolio, it was a natural next step to team up with Nintendo,” comments John Hanke, CEO of Niantic, "We’re looking forward to shaping the future of AR together, bringing Nintendo’s beloved game characters to life for mobile game players around the world."

Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto also chimed in on the upcoming mobile game with, "Niantic’s AR technology has made it possible for us to experience the world as if Pikmin are secretly living all around us. Based on the theme of making walking fun, our mission is to provide people a new experience that’s different from traditional games. We hope that the Pikmin and this app will become a partner in your life.”

There's no other news just yet but Niantic Labs does have a pre-register site for those interested in getting the latest news regarding this project.
