Director James Gunn has teased fans of incorporating a major character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe for his upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.
The special will supposedly set up the events of third volume of Guardians of the Galaxy, which is intended to release in 2023. Gunn recently took to Twitter to reveal the title art for the Holiday Special, alongside the text, "In my incredibly subjective & admittedly often odd opinion, we'll be introducing one of the greatest MCU characters of all time." No further information was given in regards to who the character might be.
Upon seeing the Tweet, many fans have begun speculating which of Marvel's unseen characters will appear. Gunn has even responded to a few of them, denying that Howard the Duck and Longshot will be in the special. The Holiday Special will come as a sequel to the previous two Guardians of the Galaxy films, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and Thor: Love And Thunder and a prequel to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Gunn also took to Twitter to confirm that the release will be in the form of a TV special and will be available to watch for the Christmas 2022. Previously, Gunn has mentioned that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is likely his final film as a director.
Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special comes out on Disney+ early next year.
