Emerging Taiwanese label Chiahung Su has unveiled its Spring/Summer 2022 collection centered around the heritage of the place it calls home. Investigating the development of the East Asian island, the seasonal range expresses an evocative narrative that celebrates a unique diversity through cohesive garment designs.
Chiahung Su explains, "Charting the identity as it’s been shaped by the land it calls home. Honing in on a narrative that spans millennia, this season’s story traces the evolving identity of the Takasago Giyutai soldiers. Across a rich tapestry of color, silhouette, and textile, Chiahung Su examines the cultural intersections between the indigenous Taiwanese people and the Japanese community as they’ve played out across time and geography."
Reflecting the shifting modes of traditional dress throughout Taiwan's history, SS22 collection merges early local jacquards with vintage Japanese textiles. While expert utilization of mud-dyeing applies natural red-earth tones to create a color study that not only symbolizes Taiwan as a whole but serves as an incarnate of the legacy tied to its soil. The muted yet dynamic quality of the eclectic offering creates a display of a nation deeply informed by nature.
