Paris-based Carne Bollente is the latest label to celebrate the work of Tom of Finland, following in the footsteps of JW Anderson earlier this year. The new collection -- a collaboration with the Tom of Finland Foundation -- mixes the artists' iconic style with Carne Bollente's embroidery and sex positive graphics.
Throughout the collaboration, black and white Tom of Finland illustrations feature alongside a new Carne Bollente logo. The items include T-shirts in off-white and washed pink, crew neck jumpers and a tote bag. Perhaps the stand-out item is a tee that features a Carne Bollente character integrated into the Tom of Finland scene.
Launching the collection, Carne Bollente explained its desire to celebrate Tom of Finland's work, saying:
"Through his art, Tom always defended sex positivity and fought for LGBT+ rights. He affirmed and glamorized gay sexuality; giving confidence to gay men at a time when many had internalized homophobia and sexual guilt. His imagery turned upside down the cliches that gays were weak. It portrayed gay men as strong and desirable, which was refreshing and empowering. This collaboration reflects our desire to introduce this artist to new generations but also to highlight the humoristic part of his work less known from the public."
