While Daniel Craig may be among the highest-paid men in Hollywood, the five-time James Bond actor has shared that he doesn't plan on leaving the entirety of his wealth to his children.
Speaking to the UK's Candis Magazine, Craig revealed that he finds the concept an inheritance “quite distasteful.”
“Isn’t there an old adage that if you die a rich person, you’ve failed?” he told the outlet, noting that industrialist Andrew Carnegie gave away most of his fortune before and after his death, equivalent to billions in today's currency.
"I don't want to leave great sums to the next generation," he told the outlet. "I think inheritance is quite distasteful. My philosophy is get rid of it or give it away before you go."
Craig will be the recipient of a paycheck of more than $100 million USD as a result of Netflix’s acquisition of two forthcoming sequels to the Knives Out, according to Variety, in which he portrays detective Benoit Blanc in the mystery movie. Filming for the first of the sequels began earlier this summer.
Craig has two daughters: a three-year-old with his wife, fellow actor Rachel Weisz, and an adult daughter named Ella from his first marriage to Fiona Loudon. Weisz also has a son from a previous relationship with filmmaker Darren Aronofsky.
The BAFTA-nominated actor certainly isn’t the only celebrity to decline allocating wealth to family members. Quentin Tarantino recently announced that he vowed to never give his mother a “penny” from his success as a filmmaker after she doubted his abilities.
