Robert Downy Jr. Co-Stars in Drama Adaptation Series of Viet Thanh Ngyuen's 'The Sympathizer'

Avengers: Endgame's Iron Man is hanging up his suit to tack his next big role. Robert Downey Jr. is set to c-star in HBO and A24's drama series adaptation of Viet Thanh Nguyen's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, The Sympathizer.

The series is set to follow the novel's cross-culture satire and thriller genre as it goes takes audiences on a journey through the struggles of a half-French, half-Vietnamese communist spy. The novel is set in the final days of the Vietnam War and dictates the spy's last moments before his exile in the United States. There is currently no word on who will be the lead in the series, but Deadline confirms that the film is going on a global search to look for a predominantly Vietnamese cast.

The series is set to be led by Park Chan-wook and Don McKellar is set to direct. Park and McKellar are also executives producing alongside Downey and his wife, Susan Downey and Amanda Burrell. The project is the first role after Downey's final appearance as Iron Man in the iconic Marvel franchise.

In other A24 news, the production company recently explored a possible sale with a $3 billion USD asking price.
