Kaseya Ransomware Hack Leaves More Than 200 Companies Compromised

The latest ransomware cyberattack on American software company Kaseya has targeted its supply chain network and left more than 200 companies compromised.

Hackers reportedly went after the IT giant's VSA remote maintenance tool, which Kaseya claims affected just "fewer than 40" of its clients. However, cybersecurity response firm Huntress pointed out that across the three managed service providers it had working relationships with, all of them had been affected, which subsequently translated to more than 200 companies being compromised.

Eight cloud service providers also fell victim to the hack, and on one occasion Swedish supermarket chain Coop had to close roughly 800 of its stores in light of the incident. While Kaseya has yet to pinpoint exactly who was behind these attacks, it has found a likely source and is currently working on a patch to fix the issue. Huntress says that the breach likely came from the infamous Russian hacker group REvil, which also attacked meat supplier JBS earlier last month.

Elsewhere in the tech world, Facebook is testing out new prompts to combat extremism.
