Nintendo Is Turning Its Plant Into a Gaming Museum

After more than five decades of service, Nintendo's Uji Ogura plant is now being converted into a video game museum, tentatively named the Nintendo Gallery.

Located in Ogura-cho, Uji-city, Kyoto, the plant was originally constructed back in 1969 and was simply known as the Uji plant at the time. In 1988, following major renovations, it was renamed to the Uji Ogura plant after another factory was opened in Makishima-cho, Uji-city. The plant was mainly responsible for manufacturing both playing cards and Hanafuda cards, and also doubled as the company's customer service center for product repairs.

As operations were shifted to the neighboring plant in 2016, Nintendo began discussions on what to do with the Uji Ogura plant, ultimately deciding on its conversion into a gallery to showcase many of its historical inventions and products. According to a press release from the gaming giant, there'll also be various exhibitions and experiences for visitors, and construction will be completed within Nintendo's 2023 fiscal year, which ends in March 2024.

Elsewhere in the gaming world, Gran Turismo 7 may be coming to the PlayStation 4 after all.
