The Weeknd Confirms End of 'After Hours' Era

The Weeknd reiterated in his 2021 iHeartRadio Music Awards acceptance speech that the After Hours era is officially over.

The XO Records head was awarded Song of the Year for "Blinding Lights," and his short but sweet acceptance speech heard him confirm that there's something new over the horizon. Met with applause, The Weeknd joked, "I gotta say, you guys make me wanna tour tomorrow." He continued to thank the team behind him and "Blinding Lights," adding, "Like I said before, the After Hours are done and the dawn is coming."

The Weeknd could possibly be hinting at the arrival of a new album, and many signs seem to point that direction. In April 2021, he took to Twitter to reveal that he's “made so much magic in the small quarantined room,” that “nothing’s ever random” and that he's “now just piecing it all together… it’s so beautiful.” He also shared in his September 2020 Rolling Stone cover story that he was making music in a makeshift studio in his home. "I might have another album ready to go by the time this quarantine is over," he said.

Watch The Weeknd's acceptance speech above and stay tuned for more info on the upcoming album.
