Stephen Kenn Designs Veg Tan Horween Seating For 3sixteen Flagship

Demin studio 3sixteen has called upon the services of Los Angeles-based furniture designer Stephen Kenn to create seating for the den of its New York flagship store.

The special edition leather sofa and chair are based on Kenn's signature Inheritance Collection with its exposed frame and belt strap aesthetic. Kenn and 3sixteen selected vegetable tanned leather from Chicago-based Horween tannery so that it would age and develop over time, in the same way that the brand's jeans age.

Kenn constructs the pieces from components made in the US just a few miles from 3sixteen's LA headquarters, welding the frames, sewing the belt straps and assembling the cushions in downtown Los Angeles.

The initial commission developed into a project that will now see the store's den also serve as a New York showroom for Stephen Kenn, who said: “Partnering up with 3sixteen on this project was a natural next step in furthering The Inheritance Collection. For over 10 years now, we have been producing our furniture in Los Angeles and this collaboration allowed us to return to our initial values which is to make objects that are never going to wear out, but rather always be in the process of wearing in. These pieces made for the new 3sixteen shop from Horween natural veg tan leather will develop a beautiful patina as they are used by the team and guests on a daily basis."
