Bose has made the very first hearing aids that won't require doctor visits. The new device is being billed as SoundControl and it's been fully FDA-approved.
This means you won't need to get a prescription to buy and use them. The assistive audio uses a technology called "CustomTune" that lets users personalize volume levels, tone, treble and bass in just half an hour. You can amplify subtle noises or accentuate vocal frequencies to better hear the person you're talking to. There's even a "Focus" feature that helps you pay attention to specific directions of sound, like what's in front of or around you. Bose also offered to provide free video appointments to anyone who wants extra help getting familiar with the device.
Bose's SoundControl will first debut in certain parts of the U.S. on May 18, like Massachusetts, Montana, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas, for $850 USD.
