UFC 261 saw the MMA organization push to offer the first full attendance sporting event in the United States with a stacked main card. But the event was marked by a series of quick finishes and shocking injuries. Kicking off the main card, Light Heavyweight Jimmy Crute was no longer able to continue against Anthony Smith after a leg kick caused nerve damage in the first round. Chris Weidman, unfortunately, broke his leg after Uriah Hall checked the first kick thrown in their Middleweight bout.
In the first of three championship fights, Valentina Shevchenko defeated Jéssica Andrade via strikes in the dominant crucifix position to defend her UFC Women’s Flyweight title.
