Frieze New York will hold its 10th edition in person this year at The Shed in Hudson Yards with more than 60 galleries joining the art fair.
The fair consists of immersive installations, augmented reality, and talks with some of the world's leading artists. Most galleries will be joining from the New York area, celebrating the creative spirit of the city.
The company's digital platform, Frieze Viewing Room, will coincide with the fair, building on the hybrid format to connect an expanded list of over 160 exhibitors, connecting international galleries, and audiences who are unable to travel.
In collaboration with the fair is a large curated exhibition of augmented reality works entitled, The Looking Glass, which will showcase in The Shed, the public area shaping the building, and the Frieze Viewing Room. Acute Art’s artistic director Daniel Birnbaum and The Shed’s chief curator Emma Enderby compile a selection of artworks including artists such as KAWS, Cao Fei, and Precious Okoyomon, which can be experienced through the free Acute Art app.
KAWS iconic KAWS’ COMPANION 2020 (EXPANDED) levitates horizontally in the air pressing against an imaginary glass. Cao Fei's RMB City AR is a futuristic urban fantasy and Precious Okoyomon introduces two large animated flowers that read poetry.
The Frieze New York air fair will be held from May 5 through to May 9, while the Frieze Viewing Room will go on until May 14. Tickets are available on Frieze's website, starting at $25 USD per person.
