An Impending Boba Shortage Is Set To Hit the United States

According to reports, the United States is about to be hit by a boba shortage. The impending shortage is caused by lagging cargo shipping imports from Taiwan, which provides the country with 99 percent of its tapioca pearls. Domestic producers of boba are also facing supply issues as the tapioca starch used to make pearl are also from overseas.

Reports go on to note that the backlog of imports has been going on since February with over 30 ships stuck at ports throughout the U.S. Insiders are noting that the impending shortage will potentially last for several months, meaning that boba purveyors nationwide will begin to face difficulties in honoring requests to add boba to beverages.
